Remy Battery Buys Challenger Battery
Local Milwaukee family owned company purchases locally owned Waukesha family business to keep its doors open post retirement
Remy Battery Company, established in 1931, who specializes in batteries, cables, and battery accessories has acquired Challenger Battery, established in 1952 who specializes in batteries. The official announcement was made May 31st, 2022. The move to acquire Challenger Battery first started with talks just over three years ago due to owner’s wish to retire, but was put on hold due to arson fire restoration work being done at Remy Battery. The discussions regained steam the week of April 18th, 2022 and the deal was signed May 31st, 2022.
“Remy Battery and Challenger Battery have always been friendly competitors working together in time of need and respecting each other’s business,” said Mike Moeller, President, Remy Battery. “I have always respected and admired the business that Rick, Fred, and their family had built in the Waukesha market.”
The acquisition of Challenger Battery fits into Remy Battery’s strategy to provide the community with excellent products and expert knowledge at a fair price. By purchasing Challenger Battery, Remy can expand their services to customers, as a result of having a brick and mortar location in the Waukesha, WI area. This acquisition will allow a long standing local family owned business in Waukesha to continue to service their community, which will now be led by another long standing family owned company that maintains the same values.
“Over the years we have had many of our good customers move to the Waukesha area and I would regularly get asked if Remy Battery has plans to expand in the Waukesha area,” said Mike Moeller “and I would always reply that we were continuing to keep an eye on the market and would expand into the area when the time was right.”
Remy Battery has plans, at least for the short term, to continue to use and market the Challenger Battery brand out of the same location. Plans are in the works to update the logo and bring in some technology to update the customer experience, but what made Challenger Battery successful will remain the same.
